The dreaded low pressure fault code

Boilers can lose pressure sporadically and throw up a fault code on your boiler and when you don’t know how to re-pressurise your boiler, it can be frustrating to say the least. This is certainly a task a homeowner can do themselves providing they don’t over-pressurise the system and follow these instructions.

Typically, if your boiler is a pressurised system, you will have an external filling loop located somewhere on the pipework. This is a silver braided hose joining two pipes together as demonstrated in the image below.

Prior to making touching the filling loop, you should first locate the pressure gauge on your boiler. Dependant on the make and model of your boiler, these can be located in different areas. Typically the pressure within your boiler should be set to between one and two bar. Once you have identified that your pressure is indeed low, you should slowly open the taps on your filling loop and as you do, you will hear water enter the system. Once the pressure reaches the desired pressure, you should close both the taps back to their previous position. This should remove the fault code and normal boiler operation can resume.
