Oil Boiler Installation From Engineers Who Know Oil Heating Inside Out

If your home runs on oil central heating, you need an engineer who genuinely knows the system. Rix Services has been working with oil heating for decades. Our OFTEC-qualified engineers install oil boilers to the highest standard, handle all the necessary certification, and cover Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Shropshire. Whether you’re replacing an ageing unit or switching to oil heating for the first time, we’ll guide you through every step without the jargon.

What Makes a Good Oil Boiler Installer?

Our engineers are OFTEC-qualified, which is the recognised standard for oil heating in the UK. That means they’re trained specifically for oil systems, not just adapting gas knowledge. We’re also Gas Safe and NICEIC-registered, so if your job involves more than just the boiler, we have it covered.

Rix Heating Services has 60 years of heating expertise behind it, and our sister company Rix Petroleum has been supplying heating oil since 1927. That heritage isn’t just a number – it means we’ve been doing this long enough to get it right.

There’s one more thing that makes us different: Rix Petroleum can supply your heating oil too. Getting your boiler installed and your oil delivered from one trusted group of companies.

Installation

Repaired Boiler

If you have an existing boiler, our engineers will safely decommission and remove it before the new installation begins.

The new boiler is installed by our OFTEC-qualified engineers, with all oil pipework, flues, and controls connected to manufacturer and regulatory standards.

Which Oil Boiler Is Right for Your Home?

Not all oil boilers work the same way, and the right choice depends on your property and how you use your heating.

Condensing or non-condensing

Modern oil boilers are condensing units by default – they recover heat from flue gases that older systems simply wasted, making them more efficient. Non-condensing boilers are largely a thing of the past for new installations, but your engineer will confirm what’s appropriate for your situation.

Combi or system boiler

A combi boiler heats water on demand, so there’s no separate hot water cylinder needed. It’s a good fit for smaller homes with one or two bathrooms. A system boiler works with a cylinder to store hot water, making it better suited to larger properties or homes with higher hot water demand.

The honest answer is that the best boiler for you depends on your property size, how many people live there, and how your current system is set up. We’ll help you weigh up the options and tell you honestly which type suits your home and usage.

Oil Boiler Replacement – When Is It Time?

Oil boilers are built to last, but every system has a lifespan. Here are the signs that your current boiler may be due for replacement rather than another repair.

  • Age – If your boiler is 15 years old or more, it’s approaching the end of its reliable working life. Parts become harder to source, and efficiency tends to drop off.
  • Frequent breakdowns – One repair is normal. If your engineer is visiting regularly, the cost of keeping an old boiler going often outweighs the cost of a new one.
  • Rising fuel bills – A loss of efficiency shows up on your oil usage. If you’re getting through more oil than usual for the same level of warmth, the boiler may be the reason.
  • Yellow or orange flame – A healthy oil boiler flame should burn cleanly. Discolouration can indicate incomplete combustion and needs investigating immediately.
  • Noisy operation – Unusual banging, kettling, or vibration are signs something isn’t right. Sometimes it’s a repair; sometimes it’s a sign the system is on its way out.

If you’re not sure, give us a call and we’ll help you work out whether a service, repair, or replacement makes more sense.

    FAQs

How much does it cost to install a new oil boiler?

The cost varies depending on a number of factors – the type and size of boiler, the condition of your existing system, whether any pipework or controls need updating, and the layout of your property. There’s no meaningful industry-standard figure that would apply to every home. The most reliable way to get an accurate number is to have a survey done, so we can assess exactly what your installation involves. Contact us for a free, no-obligation quote.

Do I need an OFTEC-registered engineer to install an oil boiler?

It isn’t a strict legal requirement, but it’s strongly recommended. OFTEC-registered engineers can self-certify that the installation meets building regulations, which saves you the time and cost of involving building control. If you use an unregistered engineer, you’ll need to notify your local building control authority separately and pay for an inspection. All Rix Services engineers are OFTEC-registered, so certification is handled as standard.

How long does an oil boiler last?

A well-maintained oil boiler typically lasts between 15 and 25 years. The single most important factor in reaching the top end of that range is regular servicing – ideally once a year, carried out by an OFTEC-registered engineer. Annual servicing keeps the boiler running efficiently, catches small problems before they become expensive ones, and keeps your warranty valid.

What happens to my old boiler?

Your Rix engineer will safely decommission your existing boiler before the new one goes in. The old unit is removed as part of the installation process, so you don’t need to arrange separate disposal. We leave the work area clean and clear once the job is done.
